WATERFRONT FESTIVAL CLONAKILTY

Thursday 28th July sees the band playing at Clon fest. a 7 piece band with a brass section consisting of Roy Kelleher (trumpet) Ken Marshall (Saxophone) Karl Rooney Sax, Clarinet and what ever else he brings along) and Paul Dunlea (the renound Trombone player). Great line up, great band great fun, great time.

NEW ALBUM

"MORE THAN JAZZ" NEARLY READY

The new album is just in its final stages, the band have decide to put three original songs on it that has extended its finishing date, the originals are to help the band get previews and reviews in more national magazines, The Roaring Forties are one of the few bands that are considered to be mainline even though the songs they play are covers from the 30's and 40s, this is because of the slant that the band put on the songs, It has been written that the forties bring this genre of music into the 60's which is quite a complement. Now to throw the cat amongst the pigeons the new songs are pop songs, hence the name "more than jazz"

RICHIE BUCKLEY & DICK FARRELLY WITH THE FORTIES AT DERRY JAZZ FESTIVAL

Now there's a treat. Ken is away in Cuba at the end of April so George tried his luck and asked Van Morrissons sax play Richie Buckley to play with them at The Derry Jazz Festival, Richie has played with us a few times, "We have always been lucky enough to have some of the best players around play with us, This festival the crowds will flock to see Richie play, A legend in his own lunchtime. we are excited" A late arrival Saturday and sunday we have special guest Dick Farrelly who is one of Irelands leading guitarists and has played with Van Morrison, Sinead O'Connor, Hazel O'Connor, Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones) A treat for your ears.

Ken Marshall is back playing full time with the band, Kens sax playing is such a great addition and was missed for a while, one of the original members Ken left as his own teaching schedule became biusy. welcome back. Paul Dunlea is back at university doing his masters, we get him when we can, he must be one of the hardest working Trombone players in the Europe.

GEORGE IS MR OCTOBER IN GUINNESS CALENDAR

George Patterson has been awarded the honour of being 2011 mr October in the 2011 Guinness Calendar, George loves the touch up job done on him by World Famous photographer Alex Telser who was commissioned to shoot this years Calendar. The Roaring Forties will be based at The Boardwalk Bar & Grill and will be closing the whole event at the Metropole Hotel in the main Bar, thats where they always are.

NEW ALBUM

A new album is currently being mixed, it promises bigger arrangements and is the first studio recording since oh Marie with Jon Kenny. George is currently working with John Fitz at Lettercollum studios in Timoleague Ireland at ironing out all the idiosincracies before final mastering.

Jon Kenny and Pat Short are an item again, touring as The Dunbelievables, George is hoping to re release the EP oh marie and has asked Pat short if he wants to put the sax line down and join in the fun on the recording, The Roaring Forties are all great fans of Jon and Pat and wish them the greatest success.
